  1. Why should I hire a professional pest control company when there are so many DIY products?

Not only does a McFadden pest control specialist identify the exact pest(s) causing a problem, but they also find the source of entry into your home to eliminate the problem.  At times, former customers have spent hundreds of dollars on store-quality pest control products only for the issues to worsen before calling a professional.  Save your money and time and call a professional pest control company.

2. Are pest control products safe for my family and pets?

In short, yes.  McFadden uses products that are safe for your family and pets.  We love our family and pets just like you love yours!

3. What is the most effective type of termite treatment?

The answer to this question depends on the type and severity of the invasion of the termites and the type of property they have invaded. Termites: The Ins & Outs

Termites and people have something in common in Charleston; they are active!  It has been said that termites are the most prevalent in South Carolina over any other state in the U.S.!

South Carolina primarily has two types of termites Subterranean Termites and Formosan Termites

The Subterranean Termites require moisture and therefore love soft, rotting wood.  They often leave signs of entering a home because they use mud tubes and find openings in the foundation.

The main differences between the Subterranean and Formosan termites are their appearance.  The Formosan termites are a hint more orange, whereas the subterranean termites are brown.

Are you concerned you have termites, or are you looking to transition your termite bond from one company to another? What do you expect?

First and foremost, you should expect excellent customer service!  The McFadden Pest Control Team believes hard work and integrity are vital to our business success.  A technician will check under your sinks, attic, and crawl space.  Be prepared for all cabinets and closets to be inspected during this process.  Once the technician determines whether you need treatment or preventative care, you will be educated about a termite bond.

TIP: A termite bond is an agreement for termite inspections to provide treatment and control if termites are ever found and repair damages or retreatment.  These contracts are for one year, with the option to continue preventative medicine each year upon payment.

There are some locations in the United States where termites are not a problem, but living in Charleston is not on that list.  With that said, protecting your home against termites is a necessity.

The Ants Go Marching

If you have been in the Charleston area for any length, you are aware that the ants march one by one.  An important thing to remember is that if you see one ant, the likelihood of many more following is excellent because they live in colonies.  Ants are amazing, hardworking creatures which are precisely why you don’t want them in your home or workplace.

  • Ants can lift 20 times their body weight.  So, if an 8-year-old was as strong as an ant, they could lift an entire car!
  • Some queen ants can live for many years and have millions of babies.
  • When finding food, ants leave a pheromone trail so that they know where they’ve been.
  • Once the queen dies, the entire colony will follow within a few months. The colony has to have a queen to survive. They often do not replace the queen.

There are three different roles for ants within a colony.  There is a queen ant, the female working ants, and the males.  The queen ant and the males have wings and can sometimes be mistaken for termites.  While ants are more of a nuisance, you do not want to mistake a termite for an ant because termites damage your property.  Don’t stress when you first see a sign of an ant or if you are worried about whether you have an ant problem or a termite problem.  At McFadden, we are well equipped with knowledge and tools to take care of either situation or help you stay at peace regarding pest control.

Pest Control in Your Apartment

We want to believe that if there is any problem when renting, a landlord will take care of the problem. However, that is only sometimes true.  If you have noticed a pest problem, the first step is to check your lease agreement to determine who is responsible for pest control.  Often a renter is responsible for pest control when the problem comes from your actions, leaving food out, doors open, etc.  This means you want to keep your apartment or rental property clean, ensure your furniture does not have bedbugs before bringing it into the space, and keep fleas from your pets.  If you are responsible for pest control in your apartment, McFadden Pest Control can help.  The most common pests that show themselves in an apartment building are the following:

  • Ants: This is because ants love food crumbs, and within an apartment, there are many opportunities for the ant to find what they want.
  • Cockroaches: These pests love the city and look for water and food within apartment buildings.
  • Rodents: Rodents love hiding anywhere they can. They will destroy anything that gets in their way by chewing to their destination, making them a challenge in apartment buildings but not one that McFadden can’t handle!
  • Fleas: Give your animals their monthly/annual flea and tick medicine and bath often.

Don’t wish you had a professional pest control company on your speed dial.  Go ahead and give McFadden Pest Control a call today to learn more about how you can protect your family and apartment.
